Avedro Inc., a Waltham, Mass.-based developer of ophthalmic device for strengthening and modifying the cornea, has raised $25 million in Series C funding. SCP Vitalife led the round, and was joined by Aperture Venture Partners and return backers Prism VentureWorks, De Novo Ventures, Flagship Ventures, Borealis Ventures and Echelon Ventures. www.avedro.com

Virtustream Inc., a Bethesda, Md.-based provider of cloud services and infrastructure solutions, has raised $10 million in Series B funding. Return backers include Intel Capital, Columbia Capital, Noro-Moseley Partners and TDFunds. The company previously raised $49 million. www.virtustream.com

Clean Urban Energy, a Chicago-based provider of energy storage and smart grid performance optimization technology, has raised $7 million in Series A funding co-led by Battery Ventures and Rho Ventureswww.cleanurbanenergy.com

OPX Biotechnologies Inc., a Boulder, Colo.-based developer of bio-based chemicals and fuels, has raised $36.5 million in a first closing of its Series C round. DBL Investors was joined by return backers Mohr Davidow Ventures, Braemar Energy Ventures, Altira Group and X/Seed Capital.www.opxbiotechnologies.com

Zafgen Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based developer of obesity therapeutics, has raised $33 million in Series C funding. Return backers include Atlas Venture and Third Rock Ventureswww.zafgen.com

YouMail, an Irvine, Calif.-based developer of customized voicemail solutions for wireless devices, has raised $12.5 million in VC funding. Backers include VantagePoint Capital Partners, Siemer Ventures and Tech Coast Angels. www.youmail.com

Petflow.com, a New York-based online pet-needs delivery service, has raised $10 million in Series B funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partnerswww.petflow.com

Monteris Medical Inc., a Winnipeg-based developer of medical devices to help treat brain cancer, has raised US$8.6 million in new VC funding. BDC Venture Capital led the round, and was joined by Southwest Michigan First and an undisclosed group of Canadian investors. www.monteris.com

New England Linen Supply Co., a Pawtucket, R.I.-based supplier of uniforms, linen, and textile products to food service facilities, has raised $7.1 million from Advantage Capital Partners and Ironwood Capital.www.newenglandlinen.com

Motif Investing, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based investment platform, has raised $6 million in Series A funding.Norwest Venture Partners and Foundation Capital co-led the deal. www.motifinvesting.com

Precision Biopsy, a Boston-based developer of prostate cancer detection technology, has raised $2.5 million in funding from Allied Mindswww.alliedminds.com

ParAccel, a Cuptertino, Calif.-based provider of a massively parallel processing platform for analytic queries, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series E funding. Amazon.com was joined by return backers Menlo Ventures, Mohr Davidow Ventures, Bay Partners, Walden International, Tao Venture Capital Partners and Silicon Valley Bank. According to GigaOm, the company has now raised a total of $73 million. www.paraccel.com

Tapjoy Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of monetization, distribution and publishing services for social and mobile applications, has raised $30 million in Series D funding. J.P. Morgan led the round, and was joined by return backers Rho Ventures, InterWest Partners, North Bridge Venture Partners and D. E. Shaw Ventures.  www.tapjoy.com

Tastytrade, a Chicago-based provider of online financial media mixed with entertainment, has raised $20 million in first-round funding. No investor information was disclosed. www.tastytrade.com

PoLight AS, a Norway-based provider of reflowable autofocus actuated lenses for camera phones, has raised $18.5 million in Series B funding. Investinor led the round, and was joined by return backers Viking Venture, Alliance Venture Polaris and Sintef Ventures. www.polight.com

MyoPowers Medical Technologies, a Swiss developer of artificial muscle technologies to treat sphincter dysfunction and incontinences, has raised CHF 16 million (US$19m) in Series B funding. Truffle Capitalled the round, and was joined by BlueOcean Ventures and return backers Novartis Venture Funds, Gran Plasa SA and Initiative Capital Romandie. www.myopowers.com

CloudShare, a platform for building and sharing business apps in the cloud , has raised $10 million in Series C funding. Globespan Capital Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers Charles River Ventures, Gemini Israel Funds and Sequoia Capital. Hepa Wash GmbH, a German developer of liver-support devices for those suffering from liver failure, has raised €7 million from investors like KfW Bank. www.hepawash.com

PayScale Inc., a Seattle-based online provider of employee compensation data, has raised $7 million in new VC funding. SAP Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Montlake Capital, Fluke Venture Partners, Madrona Venture Group and Trinity Ventures. www.payscale.com

MobiBucks, a Louisville, Ky.-based provider of cardless mobile payment and marketing solutions, has raised $5 million in Series A funding led by Acadia Woods Partnerswww.mobibucks.com

Baunat, a Belgium-based online diamond jewelry retailer, has raised €2.8 million in new funding from undisclosed investors in Belgium and France. www.baunat.com

Piazza Technologies Inc., a Palo Alto, Calif.-based online Q&A site for educators and students, has raised $1.5 million in seed funding. Backers include Sequoia Capital, Felicis Ventures, Kapor Capital and SV Angel. www.piazza.com

WhipTail Technologies Inc., a Whippany, N.J.-based maker of solid state-storage arrays designed to improve the scalability and performance of applications, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A funding. Spring Mountain Capital led the round, and was joined by RRE Ventures. www.whiptailtech.com

Twitter is raising new private funding at a valuation of approximately $7 billion, according to the WSJ. In other Twitter news, the company has acquired social analytics platform BackType, which had raised VC funding from True Ventures, K9 Ventures, Freestyle Capital and YCombinator. www.twitter.com

Dealised, a provider of private-label group buying sites, has raised $6.5 million in Series A funding fromSingTel Innov8 (Singapore) and Yuuwa Capital (Australia). www.dealised.com
