Venrock loses head of international investments

July 8, 2011: 1:34 PM ET

Ohad Finkelstein has left venture capital firm Venrock, where he was an Israel-based partner in charge of international investing, Fortune has learned. Here is part of an email Finkelstein sent to friends and colleagues earlier today:

Please note that as of June 30th 2011, I have left Venrock and together with my partners Yuval Shahar, David Hand, and Rick Scanlon created a new international, multi stage, multi discipline, and multi geography investment entity – Crescent Point Lantern based in Singapore, US, and Israel.

CP Lantern's mandate is to invest in innovative, cutting-edge companies globally and help them grow. It is an affiliate of the Crescent Point Group of Singapore, a leading emerging markets private equity investment manager with an asset portfolio over US$1 billion.

David Hand and Rick Scanlon are co-founding partners of Crescent Group. Yuval Shahar is an Israeli entrepreneur who also spent five years as a general manager in Cisco Systems' service provider group. Finkelstein, Hand and Shahar all serve together as directors on the board of XConnect, a Venrock portfolio company that develops "plug and peer" VoIP federation-based interconnection services.

A Venrock spokeswoman confirmed Finkelstein's departure, adding that there were no current plans to hire a replacement.
