Ex-Reuters Media boss joins VC firm

June 20, 2012: 12:20 PM ET

Chris Ahearn signs on with FirstMark Capital.

FORTUNE -- Former media and banking executive Chris Ahearn has quietly joined FirstMark Capital as a venture partner. No mention of this yet on the FirstMark website, although Ahearn already is repping the New York-based VC firm on the board of portfolio company NewsCred.

Ahearn is the former president of Reuters Media, a unit of Thomson Reuters (TRI), where he was known for his vocal embrace of new technologies. He also sat on the company's executive and operating committee for its Markets unit, which generated $7.5 billion in annual revenue and employed over 28,000 people (disclaimer: for a time, yours truly was among those employees).

He left the company as part of a broader reorganization last summer, and since has been occupying himself with such roles as chairman of Kevyn Aucoin Cosmetics and president of the board of arts center The Kitchen.

Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Ahearn was an investment banker with J.P. Morgan (JPM), where he also helped found an e-finance unit called LabMorgan.

Ahearn did not respond to a request for comment.
