Elevance Renewable Sciences, a Woodridge, Ill.-based producer of specialty and intermediate chemicals from renewable natural oils, has raised $104 million in Series E funding. Lacustrine Ltd., a unit of Malaysia's Genting Berhad, led the round, and was joined by Total Energy Ventures International. Elevance currently is in registration for a $100 million IPO. Shareholders include TPG Capital and Naxos Capital Partners. www.elevance.com

Avinger Inc., a Redwood City, Calif.-based maker of catheters for treating peripheral artery disease, has raised $33 million in Series C funding. No investor information was disclosed. www.avinger.com

Avere Systems, a Pittsburgh-based provider of demand-driven enterprise storage solutions, has raised $20 million in Series C funding. Lightspeed Venture Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers Menlo Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners and Tenaya Capital. www.averesystems.com

AdRoll, a San Francisco-based retargeting platform, has raised $15 million in new VC funding.Foundation Capital led the round, and was joined by return backers Merus Capital and Accel Partners.www.adroll.com

Zumbox, a Los Angeles-based provider of digital postal mail services, has raised $10.6 million in Series C funding. Computershare (ASX: CPU) and CEO John Payne were joined by return backers like Shelter Capital Partners. www.zumbox.com

Backupify
, a Cambridge, Mass.-based provider of online backup services for cloud application data, has raised $9 million in Series C funding. Symantec Corp. led the round, and was joined by return backers Avalon Ventures, General Catalyst Partners and Lowercase Capital. The company previously raised $10.5 million. www.backupify.com

Portalarium, an Austin, Texas-based publisher of mobile and social games, has raised $7 million in Series A funding. M8 Capital led the round, and was joined by FF Angel, BHV Venture Capital and company co-founderRichard Garriott de Cayeux. www.portalarium.com

CashStar, a Portland, Maine-based digital gifting and incentives company, has raised $5 million in new VC funding. Intel Capital led the round, and was joined by return backers Passport Capital and FTV Capital. www.cashstar.com
