The Carlyle Group has agreed to acquire DuPont's (NYSE: DD) vehicle and industrial coatings business for $4.9 billion. The deal is expected to close in early 2013. www.carlyle.com

Apax Partners and JMI Equity have agreed to acquire Paradigm Ltd., a provider of geosciences software solutions, from Fox Paine & Co. for $1 billion. www.pdgm.com

Bain Capital and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. are both in talks to acquire around a 30% stake in the power generation business of India's Lanco Infratech, according to Reuters. www.lancogroup.com

Industrial Opportunity Partners
 has acquired Aarrowcast Inc., a Shawano, Wis.–based maker of gray, ductile and austempered ductile iron castings. Sellers include Cornerstone Capital Partners and J.H. Whitney & Co. No financial terms were disclosed. www.aarrowcast.com

ITC Global Inc., a St. Petersburg, Fla.-based portfolio company of Riverside Partners, has agreed to acquire Spidersat Communications Ltd., a provider of satellite-based communication services for mining, exploration, and mining services companies operating in Africa. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal, which is expected to close within the next months. www.itcglobal.net
