Alphabet Energy Inc., a San Francisco-based developer of a platform silicon thermoelectric technology that generates power from waste-heat sources, has raised $16 million in Series B funding. Enaca Corp.(TSX: ECA) led the round, and was joined by return backers Claremont Creek Ventures, TPG Biotech and the CalCEF Clean Energy Angel Fund. www.alphabetenergy.com

Nipendo, an Israel-based provider of a cloud-based supplier trading solution, has raised $8 million in Series B funding. Horizons Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backer Magma Venture Partners. The company also said that it plans to relocate its headquarters to Boston. www.nipendo.com

Rent the Runway, a New York-based website for dress and accessory rentals, has raised $4.4 million in new Series C funding from American Express and Novel TMT Ventures. The round total is now $24.4 million, including an earlier close that included Advance Publications, Bain Capital Ventures, Highland Capital Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. www.renttherunway.com

Dobleas, a New York-based real-time mobile demand-side platform provider, has raised $5.4 million in Series B funding from Tokyo-based FreakOut Inc. www.dobleas.com

MacuLogix Inc., a Hummelstown, Penn.-based developer of early diagnostics and tracking solutions for age-related macular degeneration, has raised $3.6 million in Series A funding. Backers include Berwind Private Equity, Roche Venture Fund, Life Sciences Greenhouse and Ben Franklin Technology Partners.www.maculogix.com

iNDEXX Markets, a London-based developer of managed indices for fund management groups and advisory firms, has raised an undisclosed amount of VC funding from Osprey Capital.www.indexxmarkets.com
