Aquion Energy Inc., a Pittsburgh-based developer of water-based sodium ion batteries, has raised $35 million in Series D funding. Bright Capital led the round, and was joined by Bill Gates, Gentry Venture Partners and return backers Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Foundation Capital, and Advanced Technology Ventures. www.aquionenergy.com

Credit Karma, an online personal credit tracking service, has raised $30 million in Series B funding. Ribbit Capital and Susquehanna Growth Equity co-led the round, and were joined by return backer Felicis Ventures. www.creditkarma.com

Midokura, a Tokyo-based provider of network virtualization software solutions, has raised $17.3 million in Series A funding. Innovation Network Corp. of Japan led the round, and was joined by Docomo Innovations and an affiliate of NEC Group. www.midokura.com

Taris Biomedical, a Lexington, Mass.-based developer of therapies to treat bladder diseases, has raised $12.5 million in new VC funding. Return backers include Flagship Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Polaris Partners and Third Rock Ventures. The company previously raised $37.3 million. www.tarisbiomedical.com

Collective Bias, a Bentonville, Ark.-based provider of social media and shopper marketing services, has raised $10.5 million in Series A funding led by Updata Partners. www.collectivebias.com

OneHealth Solutions Inc., a Solana Beach, Calif.-based behavior change platform for the healthcare industry, has raised $9 million in Series B funding led by existing backer Lemhi Ventures. www.onehealth.com

UrgentRx, a Denver-based developer of OTC flavored powder medications, has raised $2.5 million in Series B funding. Return backers include JUMP Investors and Boulevard Capital Partners, while new investors include individuals Sam Zell, David Bonderman, Herb Simon and actress Hilary Swank. www.urgentrx.com

Balanced, a San Francisco-based provider of payment solutions for P2P marketplaces and other ecommerce companies, has raised $2 million in new seed funding from firms like Andreessen Horowitz and CollabFund. Its total seed round is now $3.4 million. www.balancedpayments.com
