FORTUNE -- Tracy Lefteroff, global managing partner of the venture capital practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, passed away on Sunday at the age of 59. He also had been the firm's national life sciences partner, aiding in mergers and VC funding transactions.

"We are saddened by Tracy's passing. He was a dedicated member of the PwC family for over 20 years and highly-regarded for his perspectives on the life sciences and venture capital industries as well as our MoneyTree Reports," said the firm in an official statement. "We will miss him tremendously and our thoughts are with his family."

Lefteroff had been with PwC for approximately 25 years, and also sat on the board of Stanford University's Venture Laboratory. He was a regular speaker at VC industry conferences, and was one of the market's most prominent analysts.

A private memorial service is planned.
